Canon EOS Photography just announced a great series of books that coordinates with their web site. You read the book and can upload the assignment to the Canon site for Critiques. There are several different books covering different subject areas.
Thinking of Photographing the Southwest Part of the US? Laurent Martres' books are the "go-to" books for the exact place, time of day, to shoot. He has several books on the subject.
The BEST book I have ever read on the very BASICS of learning the craft of photography. Used by many schools as their basic textbook. Easy to follow and devoid of any personal "trips" by the author.

OK, so now you know HOW to take pictures!! Want to learn about Photoshop? The best way to learn is "hands-on" with a tutor, but if you can't find one, any book authored by Scott Kelby, or the staff at NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals is EXCELLENT). The best $100 you'll ever spend is to join NAPP. You'll get their free tutorials, and discounts on all kinds of stuff, plus email notices about their seminars that are held all over the USA.
Send ME your name and email address and I get a little bonus with NAPP if you sign up.
Trying to get your prints to match what you see on your monitor?? Then you need some help with COLOR CORRECTION. One good book is this one:
